"You can literally walk for miles along much of the shorelines of Whidbey Island.  Sand, pebbles and the ever-present driftwood, sculpturally arranged by the tides, make up the beaches.  Ancient glacial clays, grasses and sometimes fallen trees form the eroded bluffs and cliffs...and finally meadows and forests account for the backdrop.

I painted this historic house because I wanted to capture past and present;  a coastal home built in 1909, with its slate roof and tall chimneys, poised in a setting with beach driftwood that is still much the same today as it was then."
