I grew up exploring ocean shorelines, salt marshes, and wooded hillsides.  I still do.  To me, there is nothing better than to head out to someplace and go exploring!

I always find a bit of magic and see captivating things while visiting these places and I almost always have a compelling desire to record my experience of it... whether it be an entire landscape or a single thing within that landscape.  You might think that photography would be the answer - to take a snapshot, but though I love photography, I find it falls short of capturing my personal feelings.  Painting allows me to relive the experience, relive the exploration and infuse my own impressions into the picture.

I paint using two types of media:  Watercolor and Egg Tempera.  Of these two I lean more toward watercolor because I love its' spontaneity and when dry, nearly unalterable qualities.  Additionally, because of my realistic style, it forces me, more than any other media, to focus on the bones of what I'm portraying.  It demands that I plan my paintings well, virtually completing them in my head before picking up a brush.

My work is the recreation of places and things I explore, my feelings about them, and the world through my eyes.
